Dr. Andrej Kos

Dr. Andrej Kos ( is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana as well as deputy head of the Laboratory for Telecommunications.  He started working in the field of telecommunications in 1996. Since 1999, he has specialized in modeling and design of high-speed networks and services. Currently, at the center of his work are aspects of quality of service, rural broadband networks and multimedia applications.

Marcin Paprzycki

Marcin Paprzycki (Senior Member of the ACM, Senior Member of the IEEE, Senior Fulbright Lecturer, IEEE CS Distinguished Visitor) has received his M.S. Degree in 1986 from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, his Ph.D. in 1990 from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and his Doctor of Science Degree from Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 2008. His initial research interests were in high performance computing and parallel computing, high performance linear algebra in particular. Over time they evolved toward distributed systems and Internet-based computing; in particular, agent systems. He has published more than 300 research papers and was invited to Program Committees of over 500 international conferences. He is on editorial boards of 12 journals.

Brian Caulfield

Professor Brian Caulfield leads University College Dublin's Connected Health Programme.  He is the Lead Investigator in Ireland's industry led Connected Health Technology Centre, ARCH ( and is a Director of Ireland's largest research centre, the INSIGHT centre for Data Analytics (, where he leads the Connected Health research programme.  A physiotherapist by training, Brian is also Dean of Physiotherapy at UCD.
Brian is a champion for a Connected Health ecosystem in Ireland and has forged strong relationships with key clinicians, industry leaders, policy makers and research groups to drive advances in the field.  Previously, he was a PI in the CLARITY Centre for Sensor Web Technologies ( and Director of the TRIL Centre (, a research centre focused on technologies for independent living, which was funded by GE and Intel.  As well as these companies, he has worked with a range of multinational and start-up companies such as BioMedical Research Ltd, Fujitsu Laboratories, and Shimmer to deliver innovative technology enabled solutions for areas such as rehabilitation medicine, COPD, and gerontology.  His research has led to significant commercial opportunities in terms of exploitation of intellectual property by industry partners and spin out activity.

Nuno M. Garcia

Nuno M. Garcia holds a PhD in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Beira Interior (UBI, Covilhã, Portugal) (2008) and he is a 5-year BSc in Mathematics / Informatics also from UBI (1999-2004). He is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering Computer Science Department at UBI and Invited Associate Professor at the School of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies of the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (Lisbon, Portugal). He was founder and is coordinator of the Assisted Living Computing and Telecommunications Laboratory (ALLab), a research group within the Instituto de Telecomunicações at UBI. He was also co-founder and is Coordinator of the Executive Council of the BSAFE LAB – Law enforcement, Justice and Public Safety Research and Technology Transfer Laboratory, a multidisciplinar research laboratory in UBI. He is the coordinator of the Cisco Academy at UBI, Head of EyeSeeLab in EyeSee Lda. (Lisbon, Portugal), and member of the Consultative Council of Favvus IT HR SA (Lisbon). He is also Chair of the COST Action IC1303 AAPELE – Architectures, Algorithms and Platforms for Enhanced Living Environments (Brussels, Belgium). He is the main author of several international, European and Portuguese patents. He is member of the Non-Commercial Users Constituency, a group within GNSO in ICANN. He is also member of ACM SIGBio, ISOC and IEEE.
